Marine Pavilion(Dolphin Story Hall)

Chance meetings with “ocean puppies”

Marine Pavilion is home to sea mammals such as the Steller sea lion, the largest of the eared seals, whose adult male weighing over 1 ton; the South American fur seal breeding on the coasts of Peru, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil; in the wild, the California sea lion, a smart and sleek animal, faster than any other sea lion or seal; the South American sea lion or Otaria flavescens, as known as maned seals, and the spotted seal, whose adult body is covered with furry dark spots in silver or dark gray.

Marine Pavilion comprised of the marine animal facility and the dolphin show theater has been a popular attraction since its opening in 1984. But after seven dolphins were released back to the nature three times during the period between 2013 and 2017, the theater became empty. Stories of freed dolphins promoting the meaning of animal welfare and messages to protect the marine ecosystem led to the rebirth of this place as “Dolphin Story Hall.”
