12. Reeve's Turtle
The secret code on its shell,
the slow guardian of our rivers

The Reeve's Turtle, a native species that has lived in our rivers and rice paddies for generations,
loves basking in the warm sunlight on clear rivers and ponds.
Its sturdy carapace, with three raised ridges, and the dark brown patterns on its plastron are its most charming features.

When they are young, they prefer meaty foods, but as adults, they also eat plants such as aquatic vegetation and fruits.
These smart little friends change their diet as they grow!
