09. Red Panda
AA small but even cuter carnivore

Although it shares the name “panda,” the red panda is a completely different animal from the giant panda!
Like pandas, it loves bamboo the most, but it also eats fruits, bird eggs, and leaves from time to time.

Red pandas mainly live in trees, where they also sleep.
They use their long, striped tails to keep balance.

The third Saturday of September is celebrated as “World Red Panda Day.”
This day was designated to raise awareness that these adorable animals are endangered,
and to encourage everyone to protect them.
That’s why the red panda is such an important species worldwide!

Red pandas play a key role in bamboo forests by maintaining the balance of wildlife and the ecosystem. However, due to habitat loss and a decline in bamboo, their global population is now estimated at fewer than 10,000 individuals.

Listed as Endangered (EN) by the IUCN, the red panda is facing a serious risk of extinction.
Please cheer for the red pandas at Seoul Grand Park so they can thrive in good health!
