The Hidden Gardener of the Jungle: Secrets of the South American Tapir

The South American tapir plays the role of a seed disperser for trees. As a herbivore, it enjoys eating grasses,
fruits, and leaves. By consuming fruits and spreading seeds throughout the forest, it helps maintain a healthy
jungle ecosystem.

With its long trunk-like nose, similar to an
elephant’s, it tears off leaves and cools off by
swimming swiftly in the water.

It has four toes on its front feet and three on its hind
feet, helping it walk stably even on wet ground.

Baby tapirs are born with white stripes and spots like a zebra,
which help them hide from predators in the underbrush.
