04. Grey Crowned Crane
Golden-Crowned Head, Dancing Bird

The Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum) is a member of the crane family that primarily inhabits Africa. It is known for the golden feathers that crown its head. Highly social, the Grey Crowned Crane often performs a courtship dance to find a mate or strengthen bonds within its group.

Unlike most cranes that cannot perch in trees, the Grey Crowned Crane is an exception.
Its well-developed hind toe allows it to perch and even sleep in trees.
